Thanks to the local students. It was a great presentation and i wish it may give you some insight about how beautiful Linux can be rock on!

Changed API

RapidShare has changed their APIs again Doh. This forces me to update my own script which i usually use to see my account from my local desktop. They have done so in the past and they have done it again this time.

It's kinda frustrating, since people who depends on their APIs will have to check on their documentation daily just to make sure that their code is still working due to unchanged APIs. IMHO, API should be stable and less prone to changes. With a stable APIs, then people will get more benefit of it because they are quite stable and supported for quite a long time. This way, they can work on more ideas on how to provide better service to the clients instead of working with API changes every day.

Windows 7 Failed

There's a reason why testing is very important. Failing to test the system just before a show off can ruin your show. That's what happened with Windows 7 and touch screen devices like shown on two videos on this blog.

On the first video, the presenter is trying to show Windows 7's capabilities to work with touch screen by running an application that is similar to Google Earth (i don't know the name of the application), but it won't stretches just like in IPhone or IPod Touch.

On the second video, another presenter is trying to open a folder on the desktop, but when he clicked the icon, there is no response from the Windows and they have to finally use the the technician to fix the problem. Again, when running the same application as the above, the stretch won't work again lmao

I'm sure it's so embarrassing rolling on the floor

Akonadi Bug Removed

Today, i tested KDE 4.3.2 which has been included on Slackware-Current this morning by Pat. The upgrade process was straightforward. You need to install packages marked with Added and upgrade the rest and when you start your X Server, you will be able to use KDE 4.3.2 without any problem.

One problem that i found on default installation of Slackware 13.0 is Akonadi process which always displayed an error message. Luckily, this bug has been fixed on the latest version of KDE 4.3.2. My friend who used Arch Linux still had this problem on his system, even though he also used KDE 4.3.2.

So far, everything works just fine. The flicker when new setting in the desktop effect is being applied is now gone too. It's getting better and usable for most desktop users.

Trying Arch Linux

I just had a talk with my friend in the US using Skype. We talked about Linux, especially Slackware and Arch Linux. He was a Slackware users, but recently, he migrate to Arch Linux. He told me the benefits of Arch Linux and honestly, i'm a little bit interested of trying Arch Linux.

So finally i decided that i will try Arch Linux on my VMWare machine, because i don't want to mess up with my Slackware. The ISO is only 344 MB and it will only contain the basic packages. The rest of the package will be downloaded from Arch Linux repositories across the globe big grin. It's more like a Gentoo, but it uses binary instead of compiling every source packages.

Let's hope i have time to try Arch Linux Rocking Banana

Weather

Lately, hot weather become a major trend in Plurk and probably in other social networking sites as well. Many people said that the weather has become hotter than usual. I did feel it and i think it's one of the reason why i got sick two days ago.

Today, the weather has become better, but it's still not the normal weather i used to have in the past. It's still considered hot, but the temperature has decreased compared to yesterday.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Luxury Car

Cars is a common mean of transportation besides public transportation, such as trains and buses. Since it's arrival in 1672 by Ferdinand Verbiest, Car has evolved so much by design and also by usage. Nowadays, it's common to see people who have more than one car on their house. Even i have a friend who has eight cars on his garage not worthy

There are so many car types. You have city cars, sports cars, and luxury cars. Each category has it's own product and market share. For normal people, they might choose city cars, because they would use it for daily activities and they don't need cars who runs 160 KM/hours in downtown. For those who often travels to other city, they might want to take the sports car, because time is money for them and late is not an options.

The last category is about luxury cars. It combines speed, style, safety, and luxury in one single design. One of the example of luxury car is BMW. As we already know, BMW is one of the largest car manufacturer in the world and it's known of it's design. There has been so many BMW design that you can see on it's homepage.

As a luxury cars, BMW puts all their efforts into their products. No wonder their products are full of embedded technologies. If you are curious about their technology, then you can visit this page. It seems that they want to make the users as comfortable as possible by reducing manual interventions and switching to automated, integrated computer-based navigation system.

They have won so many awards due to their research. Some examples are The "Grüne Lenkrad" for environmentally friendly technologies, the "World Green Car of the Year" award for the BMW 118d, the "Auto 1 von Europa" from the magazine "Auto-Bild", the "Paul-Pietsch-Preis" from the magazine "auto, motor und sport" for especially innovative developments in the car industry, the "Goldene Öltropfen", the "Innovationspreis" from "AutoScout24", first place in "Top Auto", the "Autorevue Award" for innovation, the "Große Österreichische Automobilpreis" and the "Green Heroes". It's all listed here. BMW M3 also received an Automotive Excellence Awards 2008 (Performance). In short, all of their products are really based on research for users conformance. You can find more of BMW's award via Google.

I wish someday i am able to buy one of those cars big grin

Even though cellphones and smart phones are becoming more advanced than it used to be, laptop, notebook, and netbook are still one of the most favorite items to be brought by some people. Higher computing performance and specification are two main reason why it's still being chosen by many people. Even the fastest gadget available is still considered slower than the slowest laptop available on the market.

Laptop, like gadget can be equipped with many accessories. Even though you may have given a laptop bag, in most cases, people would buy another bag. That's where laptop accessories will come in handy. This site offers numerous laptop case and other accessories related to laptop, notebook, and netbook. They also have unique page dedicated to specific laptop brand, for example Dell Mini 10, Sony Vaio P, Asus Aspire One, and MSI Wind series. This pages are usually chosen from top selling items.

One item that i like is this speaker. It's so slick and it matches with my desktop at home which has black color also. It can last up to 11 hours of continuous playback from a single charge! Awesome right? The design looks like a mine, so you should watch out if you plan to bring it on the plane, especially if the border officer doesn't know about it.

Fast Pace of Development

It seems that there's a bit of increased pace on the Kernel-Stable development. In just few days, new kernel has been released by Greg and on each release, there has been a numerous changes included.

The latest kernel for now 2.6.31.4 and i believe in the next few days, a new release will come up just as the previous version. It's so fast and it makes me quite lazy to follow the latest stable kernel. I'm still using 2.6.29.6, the default kernel used by Slackware 13.0 during installation.

It's not surprising to see this pace, as Linux Kernel Project is considered one of the biggest project on earth where there are more than 1000 developers around the world contributing their ideas into the mainline kernel managed by Linus. Everyday, there are changes across the 55 MB with approximately 11million lines of codes. Applause

Hold'em Tips

Card game is one of the most popular game in the world. It has been played since long time ago and it still exists nowadays. Card game is always evolving and new games are added. Even on some location, they have a modified version of a card game with some slightly changed rules. I sometimes have to ask what are the rules, since it can be different on each location. Playing with different rules are actually fun, since it's more changeling and we must adapt our normal strategy with the new rules.

Nowadays, card is not only being used to have fun with others, but it has embraced into entertainment and for some people, it become a mean to get cash. Poker game is one of the example. It's a standard game in most casino around the world. It also has so many variants, such as Texas Hold'em, Royal Hold'em, Pineapple Hold'em, Omaha Hold'em, and Manila. All of this game are based on poker. They even have an official tournament of it called World Series of Poker and World Poker Tournament.

Playing poker-like game such as Texas Hold'em is very changeling, since it involves physiology as well as techniques. We must understand the situation and read our opponents body language, since sometimes newbie players expresses their emotions when they see their cards. It can be used to decide whether they get good or bad cards. There's a lot of techniques that needs to be learned before we can become a good player.

There's a lot of hold'em tips which can be found on the Internet. One of them is this site. This site gives free (yes, free) lessons to master the game. There are 10 lessons, with each of them containing video lessons, quizzes and other useful information about the game. You can also see some text articles which can be your source of information on master the game.

Good luck with the practice and the game Goodluck
