Linux Desktop Will be More Responsive

Linux kernel developers has tried so hard to improve desktop responsiveness by adding more patches in the current development version of 2.6.36. Phoronix has written an article about it. Even so, it will not be fully deployed in 2.6.36 and most of the patches will be pushed to the mainline kernel when merge window for 2.6.37 has been opened, which means that we will see those improvements next year, as one release will take about three months and it's considered too late to push this in 2.6.36 as Linus is very strict lately (which is good in some circumstances) about merging new features.

KDE SC 4.5 is Close to Born

KDE SC 4.5 has been tagged in the SCM and the final date has been set to August 19, two days from Indonesian's independence day according to Release Schedule. I'm looking forward to see the packages in -Current and i will try this version as soon as it's ready to be downloaded from Eric's repository. He has already prepared the build system which should be faster as he bought a new computer with higher spec from his old build box.

I really appreciate Slackware users as they give their donations so much to Slackware Projects and also to Slackware contributors such as Eric. Keep working on Slackware

Recording My Own Screen Activity

In Windows, we could use Camtasia to record our activity in our screen. I thought that would be impossible to be done in Linux, but i was wrong. I use RecordMyDesktop which is able to record what you are doing on your own desktop and this is for Linux/Unix platform. This application also has 2 frontends: pyGtk (gtk-recordMyDesktop) and pyQt4 (qt-recordMyDesktop). I compiled both of them and works great on my Slackware Linux desktop.

I will use it to produce my own video for demonstrating to do something on Linux or even to teach my students on some of my course (computer security for example).

My Desktop Arrived

Finally, after waiting for three days, my new desktop has arrived today and i'm installing the OS right now. I think i would need two days to install everything i need including configuring it to suit my need.

It's way faster than my old one, so i'm quite happy with it's performance right now. I 'm able to play virtualization on this machine so easy and light.
