Alternative to Dropbox: Copy

For those who have used Dropbox and you need bigger space without having to pay more, you might be interested on Copy, a cloud-based storage that provide similar service to Dropbox. One of the most interesting of Copy is what they called Fair Storage. Basically they will equally divide the amount of storage being used. So a 12 GB folder shared between 3 people only counts as 4 GB per person. This is something interesting, as more and more people you shared with (assuming the same content), you will have more empty spaces.

They secure the data using top-secret grade AES 256 encryption algorithm which is proven to be highly secure.

Dropbox Auto Update Service

For those who have been using Dropbox service, you might notice that since version 2.0, Dropbox has an ability to auto-update to the latest version, meaning that we no longer need to download every update manually. Let your computer connected to the Internet and it will download the update and upgrade it automatically.

If you haven't upgraded to 2.0 yet, it's time to do so since there has been a lot of improvements since then. Please refer to Release Notes document for more information about the changes in Dropbox.

DropBox 1.2.0 Released

If you happen to use DropBox service, you might want to download the latest version 1.2.0 which should fix security vulnerabilities found by Derek Newton described in H-Online.

Here are the changes in the latest 1.2.0 version:

• Security enhancements, an attacker will not be able to steal your computer's account credentials just by copying configuration files to another machine.
• New encrypted database format to prevent unauthorized access to local Dropbox client database.
• Other small fixes
