OpenSUSE 12.2 Released

After suffering several delays, finally OpenSUSE 12.2 came to surface and now it's ready for public consumptions. This is the results of the two months of stabilization phase which hopefully paid their user's patience.

This release uses a stable package instead of going with the bleeding-edge version, such as:

OpenSUSE 12.1 ISOs

Since OpenSUSE 12.1 has been released few days ago, i have downloaded the 32 bit DVD ISO and since then, i continued with 64 bit version, but i got a top priority event, so i had to postpone downloading the 64 bit version.

Today, the download process of 64 bit version is now completed and it has been placed into the proper location. It's now located on our ISO Server.

OpenSUSE 12.1 Released

Following several Beta and RC releases, finally the final version of OpenSUSE 12.1 has been released by SUSE team. This brings all the work from many people from the past eight months after their previous release.

What's the biggest change in OpenSUSE 12.1?

openSUSE 11.4 Edu Li-f-e

OpenSUSE has just released OpenSUSE 11.4 two weeks ago and now they are releasing an education version of OpenSUSE called OpenSUSE 11.4 Edu L-i-f-e which brings around 150 educational applications into the build and remove unneccesary packages. It can be used for any level of education, starting from elementary school until senior high school. It can also be used for lab class, where students can try to simulate or doing some demos on something.

Basically it can be used on any educational environment as it's bundled with KIWI-LTSP server that can be enabled even by non-technical user, bundled with tons of useful applications from openSUSE Education, Build Service and Packman repositories. With the KIWI-LTSP server you can PXE(network) boot other PCs to use this live DVD without installing or modifying anything on them.

Adding OpenSUSE Repositories

Since OpenSUSE 11.3 has been released, i'm now adding OpenSUSE 11.3 Repositories into UKDW's Repo Server. It's still progressing, so please for a while while it's being mirrored. By the time it's finished, it will be accessible from this URL: http://repo.ukdw.ac.id/opensuse/

It will also be accessible from RSYNC service as well

Update (20:47): Sorry, i forgot to update this blog. Right now, the repository is up and it has finished syncronizing with upstream repository. Please enjoy the service. It's also available in rsync too

OpenSUSE 11.3 Released

OpenSUSE 11.3, the latest release of OpenSUSE has been released few hours ago and the DVD ISOs for i586 and x86_64 architecture are ready to be downloaded from UKDW ISO Server. It doesn't provide the rest of the ISOs, since these two are the main installation ISO needed for a full installation of OpenSUSE 11.3.

Linux Popularity

Royal Pingdom has published their results of small research on Linux distribution popularity around the globe. Those distributions are Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Fedora, Debian, Red Hat, Mandriva, Slackware and Gentoo. The results are quite amazing because Indonesia is listed in the top five of four of the distributions. Here's the brief observations:

• Ubuntu is most popular in Italy and Cuba.
• OpenSUSE is most popular in Russia and the Czech Republic.
• Red Hat is most popular in Bangladesh and Nepal.
• Debian is most popular in Cuba.
• Cuba is in the top five (interest-wise) of three of the eight distributions in this survey.
• Indonesia is in the top five of four of the distributions.
• Russia and the Czech Republic are in the top five of five of the distributions.
• The United States is not in the top five of any of the distributions.
