One More Steps

Finally i can configure my Centrino in Slackware. The main problem is the FIRMWARE_DIR variables. It pointed to a directory that doesn't exist. I changed the path and restart the laptop and voilaa.... everything works as i expected. I haven't tried the connection though, but at least i have make a basic configuration to detect the Centrino modules. Thanks To James Ketrenos for helping me and maintaining the Centrino Modules for Linux platform and also friends from Jogja-Wireless mailing list, especially Joshua M. Sinambela and M.S. Lubis.

Here is some outputs from my laptop:

  2. Hi:
Have you been successful using centrino to access to internet?
My latop is HP NC 6230 with Kernel is 2.6.12.4 manually built worked on Debain Sarge 3.1 r0a (stable).

It also issues "... switch is on ...". And I can not even ping to the gateway. Would you like to tell me more detail about the steps you made?
    I appreciate your help, sincerely.

  3. I don't need the RF switch, since i have the button already attached on the body of my laptop :)

  4. It's on my personal web at http://www.informatix.or.id/willy/activating-centrino-on-linux.php

I think, your problem is the DHCP server which gives a different IP address for WiFI networks and wired networks.

Please update your IPW2200 module also, since it has been upgraded to the latest version, 1.0.8 if there hasn't been updated again :)

  6. Thanks your reply.

    After reading your solution (http://www.informatix.or.id/willy/activating-centrino-on-linux.php).

I retry several times and now I make sure that the iwconfig setting is the same as the result displayed on url, except "Signal level:-74 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm" set to '0'.

But I still encounter dilemma to have access to internet by eth1, in which no matter I had either set it up to static or dhcp, it does not work at all (but centrino modules as well as ieee80211 kernel moudles can been seen in lsmod).

What else mistake I may make?

BTW, the error when restarting dhcp it issues "No working leases in persistent database".
the error when restarting eth1 (eth0 disabled) with statitc setting, I can not ping to the gateway, stating "Destination Host Unreachable"

    I sincerely appreciate any suggestion.

  7. it seems that the WiFI always takes eth1 as the devices, because it reserves eth0 for cable use. I don't know whether we can change this or not.

You don't have to restart your DHCP, instead your DHCP Client. Try /sbin/dhcpd -d -t 10 eth1 (for WiFI). It worked for me
