Installing Old Counter Strike

I just got bored today and i decided to install the old Counter Strike game from Valve using Wine and it worked out-of-the-box. Amazing. In the past, CS was considered one of the best FPS game in their era and few years later, Valve has released the sequel of this famous game.

Wine has been maturing lately and every two weeks, they released a snapshot which is getting better and better. Even though they are considered developer snapshot, they are quite stable for daily use. I have been following their work and so far, it has been a good cycle.

evasi0n No Longer Works for iOS 6.1.3

After analysing iOS 6.1.3 Beta 2, David Wang aka PlanetBeing, one of the core members of the Evad3rs who provided untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.x devices said that it has fixed one (and probably more) vulnerabilities used in evasi0n tool.

He is still analysing whether more vulnerabilities are fixed in the latest beta and it's not impossible for Apple to release another beta which will fix more vulnerabilities in the future.

For the time being, stay away from iOS 6.1.3 if you want to keep your device untethered jailbroken using evasi0n.

Time to Rest

In the last few days, i was working hard to complete my deadline for my project and today, i have submitted the latest code which is ready to be tested and it has been deployed on the customer's system.

It's time to get some rest since i didn't have enough sleep at night since i had to take care of my baby girl as well, so i'm using this chance to take some rest at weekend.

I may not be able to post daily anymore due to my tight schedule, so probably it will be once in two days for now. I will try to maintain daily post if i had the time to post something interesting.

IRIS II

Finally after waiting for some time, IRIS II has finally airing. This is one of the KDrama that i have been waiting for since the first season's ending was stalling and it blew up my dream of watching a good ending.

It's now on their second week and their ratings is high as predicted. It's already on my watchlist and i'm going to watch it later when i have completed watching Ghost, another KDrama that was already completed since last year, but i didn't notice it, so i started downloading it few weeks ago and i'm in the last episode right now.

IRIS II is Airing

For KDrama lovers who enjoyed watching IRIS, be happy as now IRIS II is airing since yesterday and it will be another 20 episodes of full intrique, plot, actions, bombing, martial arts, and of course romance.

The filming process has been started since some time ago, but the air time has been announced on early this month. This week, they started their premiere and they got the highest rank for this week and probably every week. We will have to wait and see to confirm that achievement.

Happy Watching :)

MySQL 5.6.10 Build Attempt

Oracle has announced the availability of MySQL 5.6.10 as a GA (General Availability), a status which declares that this release is intended for public consumption and safe to be used for production machines.

Today, i tried to compile MySQL 5.6.10 using Slackware's SlackBuild script, but then i got a lot of failures during compilation. Searching for bug reports in MySQL's bug tracker doesn't really help as the patches that were posted were no help in my case.

I think i will have to wait for the next release to come out to fix most of the problems with the current version. It seems that GA is not always buildable at the first attempt :)

Snappier iDevice on iOS 6.1

After jailbreaking my iPad 3rd Gen, i feel that my iPad is now more snappier than before i upgraded to iOS 6.1 (previously 5.1.1). I think because during upgrade process, it kinda format all of the system and install the new firmware to the device and restore all the apps to the device again.

The same goes with most Windows installation system. When you think your system is getting slower, that might be a sympthoms to reinstall your system to be refreshed again. Doing so will clean the registry which holds most of your system and application's settings, including the one you probably have removed.

Back to the iOS case, some people reported that upgrading to iOS 6.1 will increase their battery life on iPhone 5. I don't perform any benchmark on my iPad, so i couldn't tell whether it's happening or not, but what i can tell that iOS 6.1 is causing my iDevices to be more snappier than before.

LibreOffice 4.0 Gets Released

As planned, The Document Foundation finally released LibreOffice 4.0, their major release since LibreOffice 3.x and this is the first release that reflects the objectives set by the community at the time of the announcement, in September 2010: a cleaner and leaner code base, an improved set of features, better interoperability, and a more diverse and inclusive ecosystem.

Released as a major release, LibreOffice 4.0 brings a lot of new features as well fixing numerous bugs that has been reported by their users. Here are the highlights of this release:
  • Integration with several content and document management systems - including Alfresco, IBM FileNet P8, Microsoft Sharepoint 2010, Nuxeo, OpenText, SAP NetWeaver Cloud Service and others - through the CMIS standard.
  • Better interoperability with DOCX and RTF documents, thanks to several new features and improvements like the possibility of importing ink annotations and attaching comments to text ranges.
  • Possibility to import Microsoft Publisher documents, and further improvement of Visio import filters with the addition of 2013 version (just announced).
  • Additional UI incremental improvements, including Unity integration and support of Firefox Themes (Personas) to give LibreOffice a personalized look.
  • Introduction of the widget layout technique for dialog windows, which makes it easier to translate, resize and hide UI elements, reduces code complexity, and lays a foundation for a much improved user interface.
  • Different header and footer on the first page of a Writer document, without the need of a separate page style.
  • Several performance improvements to Calc, plus new features such as export of charts as images (JPG and PNG) and new spreadsheet functions as defined in ODF OpenFormula.
  • First release of Impress Remote Control App for Android, supported only on some Linux distributions. (The second release, coming soon, will be supported on all platforms: Windows, MacOS X and all Linux distros and binaries.)
  • Significant performance improvements when loading and saving many types of documents, with particular improvements for large ODS and XLSX spreadsheets and RTF files.
  • Improved code contribution thanks to Gerrit: a web based code review system, facilitating the task for projects using Git version control system (although this is not specific of LibreOffice 4.0, it has entered the production stage just before the 4.0 branch).
LibreOffice is not only targeting users, but also developers. Under the hood, a lot of API changes has been introduced to make this product even better in the future.

Go get LibreOffice in their Download page and extend your LibreOffice by adding more extensions.

My iPad Jailbroken

I decided to try upgrading to iOS 6.1 after backing up my iPad using iTunes on Windows. At the first attempt, the upgrade failed and it stucked on recovery mode and i have to restart the process again. The second time attempt worked.

Since it was about time i go to my office, i decided to perform the jailbreak later when i got home at the evening. My iPad was still running pure iOS 6.1 at that point. So far so good, all of my data is recovered using the backup earlier.

At night, i performed the jailbreak using Evasi0n from Evad3rs team and it's so simple as usual. It will close iTunes and then performing the jailbreak once we click on the button. It requires only several manual steps performed by the users and it's so simple. All you have to do is read the instructions on the Evasi0n tool.

After completing the jailbreak process, it will reboot several times to upload Cydia and the repository as well and you are done. You just need to click on the Cydia and it will perform an initial process of preparing the filesystem for Cydia and then you can start installing applications from Cydia repository.

Big thanks to Evad3rs team who have done another great release on bringing untethered jailbreak to iDevices for iOS 6.x :)

Untethered Jailbreak iOS6 is Here

Just few hours since my last post regarding the jailbreak from the evasi0n, they released the jailbreak officially in three different platform, Linux, Windows, and Mac. You can download the tool and connect your devices and click on the jailbreak button to start the jailbreak process.

Basically the process is straightforward, except that there's one last step that must be performed ONLY ONCE, which is to click on the JAILBREAK icon and the screen would flick and it will reboot again. The jailbreak will also install cydia and push the latest update of the repository, so users will no longer have to fetch the repository again after installing Cydia.

Untethered Jailbreak for iOS6 is Coming

Evasi0n progress is now at 98%, meaning that the long-awaited untethered jailbreak is coming up shortly. It should be happening this week as the progress is that close to completion.

Anyway, i'm not quite interested to perform an upgrade to iOS6 since it doesn't add too much interesting feature which benefits me IMHO. iOS 5.1.1 so far has been fantastic and it's working for me. But it will probably change later on when my curiosity is raising up again.

If the release is in reality, it would be a big release from the evad3rs team who have been working hard to make this release possible. It's been a long time since untethered jailbreak is able to win against Apple security protection in their iOS 6.

LibreOffice 3.6.5 Released

The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice for 3.x branch, LibreOffice 3.6.5. This brings quite a big number of bug fixes across the area and it's intended for those who are looking for a stable office suite.

Meanwhile, the development for LibreOffice keep going. They also released RC3, which should be marked as final version if there are no showstoppers in this RC. The 4.0 release is planned for this February and it will be on time. Lets just wait for some days before the final version gets published.

For enterprise users, it's recommended to stick with 3.6.x branch until LibreOffice 4.0.2 gets released to avoid some regressions which is normally found on major new releases
