evasi0n No Longer Works for iOS 6.1.3

After analysing iOS 6.1.3 Beta 2, David Wang aka PlanetBeing, one of the core members of the Evad3rs who provided untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.x devices said that it has fixed one (and probably more) vulnerabilities used in evasi0n tool.

He is still analysing whether more vulnerabilities are fixed in the latest beta and it's not impossible for Apple to release another beta which will fix more vulnerabilities in the future.

For the time being, stay away from iOS 6.1.3 if you want to keep your device untethered jailbroken using evasi0n.

My iPad Jailbroken

I decided to try upgrading to iOS 6.1 after backing up my iPad using iTunes on Windows. At the first attempt, the upgrade failed and it stucked on recovery mode and i have to restart the process again. The second time attempt worked.

Since it was about time i go to my office, i decided to perform the jailbreak later when i got home at the evening. My iPad was still running pure iOS 6.1 at that point. So far so good, all of my data is recovered using the backup earlier.

At night, i performed the jailbreak using Evasi0n from Evad3rs team and it's so simple as usual. It will close iTunes and then performing the jailbreak once we click on the button. It requires only several manual steps performed by the users and it's so simple. All you have to do is read the instructions on the Evasi0n tool.

After completing the jailbreak process, it will reboot several times to upload Cydia and the repository as well and you are done. You just need to click on the Cydia and it will perform an initial process of preparing the filesystem for Cydia and then you can start installing applications from Cydia repository.

Untethered Jailbreak iOS6 is Here

Just few hours since my last post regarding the jailbreak from the evasi0n, they released the jailbreak officially in three different platform, Linux, Windows, and Mac. You can download the tool and connect your devices and click on the jailbreak button to start the jailbreak process.

Basically the process is straightforward, except that there's one last step that must be performed ONLY ONCE, which is to click on the JAILBREAK icon and the screen would flick and it will reboot again. The jailbreak will also install cydia and push the latest update of the repository, so users will no longer have to fetch the repository again after installing Cydia.

Untethered Jailbreak for iOS6 is Coming

Evasi0n progress is now at 98%, meaning that the long-awaited untethered jailbreak is coming up shortly. It should be happening this week as the progress is that close to completion.

Anyway, i'm not quite interested to perform an upgrade to iOS6 since it doesn't add too much interesting feature which benefits me IMHO. iOS 5.1.1 so far has been fantastic and it's working for me. But it will probably change later on when my curiosity is raising up again.

If the release is in reality, it would be a big release from the evad3rs team who have been working hard to make this release possible. It's been a long time since untethered jailbreak is able to win against Apple security protection in their iOS 6.

iOS 6.1 Released

After releasing iOS 6.1 Beta 5 few days ago, Apple gave a surprise by launching the final version of iOS 6.1 to public. What's new on this new release? Well, not much and not too interesting, but here they are:

• LTE support for more carriers (complete list of supported carriers at www.apple.com/iphone/LTE)
• Purchase movie tickets through Fandango with Siri (USA only)
• iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs from iCloud
• New button to reset the Advertising Identifier
• Bluetooth keyboard compatibility to the Apple TV
• new Map APIs for better app integration

On the good side, an untethered jailbreak might be coming after this release as the JB masters has confirmed that they have found a working exploit and right now, they are reviewing this release with the exploits they have found. If it's proven to be working, they will start updating their tools to perform the jailbreak process in user-side.

iPad 3

I just bought the new iPad today. The first thing i do after setting it up is to jailbreak it so that i can customize it as i like, which is something impossible to do when it's still in the official mode. Thanks to Absinthe, the jailbreak process is easier than ever. All i need is to run the application and then plug the iPad to my computer using USB cable and press the Jailbreak button. They will do the rest.

It's all done now and i wanted to install some applications that i have installed on my previous iPad 1. I guess i will take this weekend to prepare for this new iPad.

iOS 6 Closed Many Vulnerabilities

With iOS 6, Apple want to fight back against the jailbreakers. It's reported that iOS 6 has closed numerous security vulnerabilities found on previous version. Among these fixed vulnerabilities, there might be some vulnerabilities used by the jailbreakers to exploit iOS and able to bypass it's system to deploy the jailbreak.

Jailbreakers has said to stay away from iOS 6 unless you know the risk. While some has reported that a tethered jailbreak has already being done in iOS 6, most people will definitely wait for untethered jailbreak and that will not come in short time.

We will have to wait until the official announcement from the jailbreakears :)

Installing Installous 5

If you have been using a jailbroken iDevices, then you might have been familiar with Installous, a great tool which offer applications outside the Apple AppStore. The reason why people would install Installous is that they can find a third party repository in which some of the applications can't be found on AppStore due to strict policy of Apple.

Other reason for using Installous is to have a trial version of a software without buying it first, something that it's not possible in AppStore. When you wanted to download an application (even for trial), if it's a commercial app, you would have to pay for it. Installous can solve that problem by enabling you to download the same software but from third party repositories.

Right now, Installous has been upgraded to Installous 5 and it brings some new features such as:

• Added BitTorrent download support
• Support for iOS 5 notifications
• Better filehost compatibility
• Bug-fixes and optimization

As usual, if you wanted to get Installous 5, you must have your devices untethered jailbroken first using Absinthe or any other jailbreaker tool available on the Internet. Next, you add this repository into Cydia : http://cydia.hackulo.us/. Let it download the list of packages and reload the list and then, you can start searching for Installous 5.

iPad 2.4 Untethered Jailbroken

I wonder why they skipped 2.0.3 ? Was it because it's for iPad 2,4 ? Who knows....

SiriPort Activated

Finally i have been able to activate SiriPort on my iPad 1 after some trial and error for 1 day. SiriPort is a porting of the famous Siri that was only available for iPhone 4S to other iDevices, including iPad. It was created by the Russian hacker.

Here's the short tutorial that i performed to install SiriPort :

• Make sure you have iOS 5.1.1 and untethered jailbreak using the latest absinthe tool 2.0.2
• Open up Cydia and add a new repo: http://repo.siriport.ru/
•  You can search for SiriPort in Search tab and install it. 
• If it failed, you can download the deb file manually and install it using iFile
• Reboot your device
• Open up Safari browser and visit http://siriport.ru/1.crt
• Install the certificate
• Reboot your device
• Enable Location Services and Use Siri (or enable it on Settings > General > Siri)
• Activate Siri by holding the HOME button for 2 seconds until the microphone icon showed up and say "Hi Siri". This process might not be successfull at first attempt due to heavy load on Apple Servers probably, so keep trying doing this until she replied back. I got mine activated after trying for one day.

Absinthe 2.0.2 Released

Just one day after Absinthe was released, Apple pushed a firmware update for iPhone 4S with a spesific build number 9B208. Right now, Absinthe are updated to 2.0.2 to include fixes to provide support for the new firmware as well.

How i Perform Untethered Jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1

I posted yesterday that i would wait for a couple of days, but this morning, i just performed an untethered jailbreak to my iPad 1. I just can't wait for too long when the tools has been ready and updated and the method is SUPER EASY to do.

OK, here's how i do my untethered jailbreak. This works on my iPad, but i can't guarantee that it will work on your iDevices. Make sure you have make a backup of your data before proceeding.

• Download the latest Absinthe releases (2.0.1) for Windows, Linux, or Mac
• Pick the correct method for your devices
• iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3G
• iPad 1, 2, 3
• iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G
• On my case, it's iPad 1, so i pick the second link
•  Make a backup of your device
• Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’ on iTunes
• Remove all your data and settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster.
• Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. 
• Don't worry about the data if you have performed the back up process earlier
• Extract Absinthe 2.0.1 and launch absinthe executable. This will close iTunes. That's fine.
• Wait until the jailbreak button becomes available and your iDevices firmware version has showed up. Make sure it's already in iOS 5.1.1.
• Click on the Jailbreak and let the magic process begins. No need to enter DFU mode again manually. Let the Absinthe do the work for you :)
• Once completed, you can restore the settings and apps again from iTunes using the backup earlier
• Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before
• Some "pirated" applications might not be able to be installed / synched at this point. Just sync the apps you purchased legally
• Open up Cydia and wait until it finishes preparing the filesystems and reboots your device
• Open up Cydia once again and let it download the repository packages
• On my case, i added two additional repository
• http://sinfuliphonerepo.com
• http://cydia.hackulo.us
• I installed iFile, OpenSSH, Installous, AppSync, and Hackulo Security (plus all the dependencies)
• Reboot your iDevices (optional, but i just wanted to make sure)
• Re-sync with iTunes and now, all of your apps (including the pirated one) can be synched perfectly

If you have upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 previously and have a tethered jailbreak, you can switch to untethered by using Rocky Racoon on Cydia.

I would like to remind you to purchase the applications legally in AppStore since applications that exists outside App Store is not tested by Apple and you are on your own when having problems with third party applications. It's also our way to give credit to the author of the apps.

Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 is Out

Well, it's as expected, pod2g has released untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 on Friday in forms of Absinthe 2.0. All iDevices (except for Apple TV) are reported to be working, including the latest iPad (3rd Gen) and iPhone 4S. The tool are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Some people have reported that they are having some issue after jailbreaking and my guess is that it was caused due to heavy load on the server. According to the reports, there are 300.000.000 iDevices are waiting for this untethered jailbreak, meaning it would cause a massive load and it could trigger a failure on your devices. I think it's quite safe to wait for another day before performing the jailbreak itself.

iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak is Near

There has been a lot of rumor about the issue about the upcoming untethered jailbreak for 5.1.1, but finally we have a new hope after the jailbreakers has confirmed that they have a working exploits and will release the full blown exploits for all iOS devices except for Apple TV. The new exploit will be implemented in Absinthe 2.0 and also a new version of redsn0w and probably many other tools out there.

Since these kind of news can be misused by other people by offering jailbreaker tools, the developer has warned that they haven't released an official release of Absinthe tool yet and don't get fooled by other people who offered a paid jailbreaker tool called Absinthe 0.5. They only want to take your money without giving you the real tool to work with.

Downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 is Possible

Apple has released iOS 5.1 and stopped signing for older version of iOS 5.0.1. That means that if you buy a new device (such as the new iPad) that comes with iOS 5.1 by default, you are left with tethered jailbreak unless you downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 which already have untethered version.

Well, the good news is that it's possible for us to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 even after you have upgraded to iOS 5.1. Unfortunately, there are still no public releases on tools used to perform the downgrade, so we need to wait for few days/weeks before a public release is coming out and users will be able to downgrade their A5-based devices. The New iPad is Untethered Jailbroken

Usually when a new iOS version is out, it takes quite a while before the hackers are able to perform untethered jailbreak on it, but a special case for iOS 5.1 do happened. i0n1c, one of the hacker had posted a tweet saying that he already had iOS 5.1 untethered jailbroken on his new iPad on the day of release.

Later on, he uploaded a video on YouTube showing that he actually do have his new iPad untethered jailbroken. It's just a matter of time of when the exploits will be updated to reflect this finding. I guess it won't be that long in the future.

I believe this might be a good news for those who wanted to buy the new iPad since they can expect to have the devices to be untethered jailbroken when they arrived later on. In the past, people had to wait for quite a long time before they can perform a fully untethered jailbreak on their devices, leaving them with tethered jailbreak for those who can't stand using the official version.

Absinthe Updated to Support Linux

Afte releasing Absinthe for Mac and Windows, the developer didn't stop at that point. They released an update for this tool and they even release this version that support Linux platform as well. So, basically from this moment, you can use Linux to jailbreak your A5 devices and no longer dependent on Windows/Mac.

Unfortunately, iTunes for Linux is not going to be available as Apple willy only support Windows and Mac for the time being (and probably forever).

Absinthe for Windows Platform

Oh my... less than 24 hours and Absinthe for Windows has been released by p0sixninja and the Chronic DevTeam and it's ready to make your dream come true: having an A5 devices jailbroken with untethered mode.

Using Absinthe is way easier than Redsn0w or any other jailbreaking tools, since you only need to plug the devices and hit the button once (yes, once). It will do it's magic automatically and when it's done, you can safely reboot your devices and got the untethered.

Performing Untethered Jailbreak on Windows

For Windows users that have been waiting for the untethered jailbreak on A5 devices, the wait is not over yet, since the developers only released Mac version of Absinthe, the tool that can jailbreak A5 devices (iPhone 4S and iPad 2).

Untethered Jailbreak for A5 Devices

Finally, the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) is out after pod2g find his dream team (iOS hacker teams, the iPhone DevTeam and Chronic Dev Team) were joining in to get this jailbreak come true. The combination team released a new tool called Absinthe.

FreakGeeks has posted a short tutorial in order to have your iDevices jailbreaked along with a video tutorial just in case it's your first time jailbreaking an iDevice.

Along with this release, new version of Cydia is also released (1.1.4) with supports for the new A5 untethered jailbreak devices.

As always, first try is not always a perfect one, so FreakGeeks has mentioned some known problem when you try to perform this actions and how to fix it. The developers has released an updated version of Absinthe to fix this problem.

My suggestion is that for few days until it has calm down a bit and then start performing your upgrade. There are too many people who have waited for this jailbreak and they will cripple the servers in no time. Just update to iOS 5.0.1 first and then you can start your upgrade process later. Be sure to make a backup of your data first, because everything can go wrong and you can't blame the developers for that kind of problems.
