Arang and the Magistrate

Finally, after several days without any KDrama to watch, finally i have decided to watch Arang and the Magistrate. One of my reason to follow this drama is because it has a good translations from DarkSmurf Sub. I can't speak Korean, so i need good translations from subbing group so that i can enjoy the movie.

This drama is scheduled to have 20 episodes (10 weeks) and it has been airing since last month (August 15). The main cast of this drama is Shin Min Ah, who played as Gumiho in her previous drama. It looks like she enjoyed being a "ghost" character.


Here's some synopsis, taken from several source:

The drama is based on famous folklore, as all ghost stories are: During the Joseon era in the city of Miryang, Arang was the pure, beautiful, goodhearted daughter of a magistrate. She grew up without a mother, and was raised by a wicked caretaker who conspired to have her be raped and ruined by a servant. He attacked and she resisted, so he stabbed and killed her, and left her body to rot in the woods.
Her father the magistrate just believed that she dishonorably eloped with a man and so resigned his position swathed in shame. Thus the legend goes that every time a new magistrate comes to Miryang to fill the position, Arang’s vengeful ghost shows up to tell him her story and he flees in terror.
But one day a new magistrate comes to town — a young man by the name of Lee Eun-oh. Arang appears to him like every other magistrate before him, but this man doesn’t flee, and instead sympathizes with Arang, and promises to find her killer and avenge her death.

Last Episodes

Today, the last episodes of Man of Honors will be released to public and the subtitle will follow few days later. It's been a great time watching this KDrama, even my wife liked it too and she became more addicted than i'm on this case.

Thanks to KBS for airing this great KDrama. I'm looking forward for another great KDrama next year.

Dae Jang Geum

I just came back from having a dinner at Dae Jang Geum, another Korean restaurant in Jogja with my wife. There was an event held in that place and we came as a representative from my wife's mother since she is still in Bali right now and couldn't attend the event.

This restaurant previously was also a Korean restaurant called Arirang, but somehow it was closed and now it has came up again with a new management, owner, and also in a new brand called Dae Jang Geum. The place has quite a big space and i think it can hold up to 250 people.

It's been a long time since i tasted Korean food and i think the food here is much better than in Sila, another Korean food which i didn't really like. It seems my tounge is not so friendly with Korean food

New KDramas

Recently, i have been watching 49 Days and Paradise Ranch. Both are Korean Dramas. 49 Days is still airing, while Paradise Ranch has been completed.

IMHO, both are good dramas. Paradise Ranch was a bit boring at the beginning, but lately, it turned good in the middle and it's getting better on each episodes onwards. Luckily i endured myself to watch it until now (I'm at ep 12 currently, but i can finish it in the next two days i guess).

In the other hand, 49 Days is interesting since ep 1. I have predicted that it will be a good one since i read the synopsis and i was correct. It turns out to be a good drama. I wanted to wait until the drama finished airing, but i can't hold it anymore, so i completed all 12 eps in just 2-3 days and then i have to wait for the next week to have the final 2 episodes (2 episodes will come out this Wednesday and Thursday).

Secret Garden Drama

Currently, i'm watching Secret Garden, a Korean drama which is still airing. I have been absent watching Korean Drama for some time and focusing on Chinese/Taiwanese dramas, but since i think this drama is good, i'll make an exception for it.

The drama tells the story of Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin), an arrogant and eccentric CEO who maintains the image of seeming perfection, and Gil Ra Im (Ha Ji Won), a poor and humble stuntwoman whose beauty and body are the object of envy amongst top actresses. Their accidental meeting, when Joo Won mistakes Ra Im for actress Park Chae Rin, marks the beginning of a tense, bickering relationship, through which Joo Won tries to hide a growing attraction to Ra Im that both confuses and disturbs him. To complicate matters further, a strange sequence of events results in them swapping bodies.

So, if you read the synopsis, you will find out that it's very interesting and the plot is rarely to be found in most Korean drama. It's airing on Saturday and Sunday (Korean time), so the English subs are usually released few days after it has been airing (most likely in Tuesday-Thursday).

If you look at the episode ratings, you will see why i am so eager to watch this drama

Finished Watching 1% of Anything

I have just finished watching 1 Percent of Anything, an old Korean drama which was airing on 2003. I downloaded few months ago, but i only have time lately to finish watching it. At first, i thought it would be a boring movie as the first few episodes was quite boring, but eventually it changes gradually and i enjoyed it. The total episodes are 26 , normal number of episodes for Korean. Usually Chinese dramas have more than 40 episodes and sometimes 50.

At the end, i gives a very special moral message to the viewer. Even though we only have 1% of chance, we should make use of it as it can change everything.

I still have several other movies waiting on my watch list which i haven't had a chance to watch, but i guess that would have to wait a little bit longer as regular semester starts very soon, so i think i should hold on to that and prepare for next semester
