Browser Spesific Site

I hate it when a site can only be viewed with a specific browser (most of them are IE-based). Today, i saw in my RSS Reader application that Walmart rejects non-IE browsers, including Firefox and Safari. Try to go to this URL using non-IE browsers and you will get a notifications:
We notice you're not using Internet Explorer. To continue, please visit this page using Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.

Get the latest version for your computer.

I also have problem viewing my transaction inquiry on my bank using web access. It seems that the bank also requires IE as the browser or some functions will not be available (even the logout button is not enabled when viewing the site using non-IE browser).

A simple question, if there is something wrong, can I sue OpenSource developer?

On the other hand, because I (have money) purchased a support contract with Microsoft, I can sue them.

This is a typical practice for big corporation, just to have a guarantee, legally, officially, on paper.

Better if every programmer do compatibility test for most of browser. It will make our software be accepted in broaden scope.

  3. @obyektif: I don't think anybody can sue Microsoft if something happened with IE, since it's already written in the EULA. All they can do is submit a request/report a bug to their support center, but you can do this also in other browsers and usually you will receive faster updates compared to monthly schedule from Microsoft.

@Dewo: Yes, i do that also, but not all browsers, since i don't have all kind of browsers. I usually test in major browsers only (IE, Firefox, Opera, Konqueror). I'd like to test also in Safari, but unfortunately i don't have an Apple laptop :D

That's just not good. Web developers should also consider other browsers.
