Canonical has decided to drop funding support to Kubuntu after seven years without making a significant (financial) progress compared to Ubuntu. This message was discussed on Ubuntu mailing list and it was announced by Jonathan Riddell, the lead Kubuntu developer.
This decision will take affect after the release of 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) which is two months from now. It's pure business decision, said Jonathan and he hoped that Kubuntu will keep progressing just like Ubuntu and many other Ubuntu variants.
