For an OpenSource application, there are no exact date when to release a newer version, but for some developers, they have set their own, such as Gaim who set three weeks for their development time and they will release their new version after three weeks. For bigger project, such as KDE, the development time will be much longer, about six months.
This time, Gaim project has fulfilled their promises again. They release another version of Gaim, 1.1.0 (another big jump from 1.0.3) yesterday, even though it was published today (i have already downloaded them yesterday since it was posted at Majorgeeks, a site who publishes a 'state of the art' application, even though it's not officialy published yet by their developers). I also downloaded Winamp 5.07 one day before they are published to public. They truly provides an updates for application maniacs. If you want to get their latest update, please use their RSS to get informed. They updated their RSS very quickly, so make sure you don't miss your news.
PS : They only publishes Windows application, but because Gaim is also available on Windows platform, it can be used also :)
