By the way, lots of people have started to discuss features that will be in OOo 3.0. While the exact date isn't scheduled for sure, OOo 3.0 is planned to be released this year. Rough prediction is going to be in September or in OOo Conference 2008 which will be held in October in Beijing, China. Lots of new things will be included in this release (Taken from Andrew Z's blog):
- New Start Center (if OOo is opened without any modules/documents. The default one in OOo 2.3.x is empty space and it's ugly )
- View multiple pages in Writer
- Better notes (for reviewing documents and compatibility with MSO's Notes)
- MSO File Format Support (docx, xlsx, pptx)
- Solver in Calc
- New theme for Calc for cell selection (translucent and glass effects)
- Native tables in Impress
- Error bars in Chart
- More column in Calc (1024 compared to 256)
- Official support for Mac—using the pretty Aqua interface
- Performance improvements
- Simultaneous editing of spreadsheets by multiple users (real time sharing)
- Cross-references to headings
- Updates to embedded fields in mail merges from Calc
- Displaying PostScript OpenType fonts on Linux and Solaris
- Titles for secondary axes in charts
- OpenDocument Format 1.2
